Why We Sit

1. Meditation is not the Path.

Let others make it the destination. Here we do not. Sitting is not arrival. It is tempering the blade, tuning the instrument, so the real Work can be done.

2. The First Seeing.

Sitting shows you this ; perceiving and thinking are not the same thing. A vast difference. You learn that mind is not the one who thinks. Mind is the sky where thinking passes like birds.

3. The Other Attention.

Your ordinary attention is partial. It picks, it chooses, it divides. In doing so, it makes duality. But there is another attention; impartial, self-born, knowing itself without needing a knower. It needs no observer standing apart. In sitting, you may for a moment taste it.

4. The Practice of Not-Doing.

All day you are busy; judging, liking this, disliking that, meddling with what is. This constant interference is what keeps confusion alive. Sitting accommodates not-doing. It is the art of becoming indifferent to the habit of meddling. When high indifference grows, interference lessens. What remains is order.

5. The Great Knot — Expectation.

You sit and it is not what you imagined. No light, no bliss, no sign of being special. This disappointment _is_ the perfect teaching. This is the universal sitting problem.

Expectation has no content; whether you expect enlightenment or a shiver of energy, it is the same. Expectation is a quiet war with now. A rejection wearing the mask of hope. The medicine is not to finally get what you hoped for. The medicine is agreement.

Agreement with what is happening now. Not a thought that says "I agree." A visceral yes, a movement in the belly that says: this is workable. This is enough. All is workable as it is.

6. Distraction is not about control.

You hear the sounds outside and you fight to stay inside. You believe you must choose; either this sitting _or_ that sound. This is because your attention is small, made small by you, so it must choose.

Real attention is not small. It can hold everything at once. It is not sequential like thought, which runs trying to keep up. It is faster than thought. It comes before thought.

7. What is Real Attention?

It is a radiant field. A timeless medium where experience transfers in an instant.

It is not yours. It is a property of space itself, and you may enter it voluntarily, or not.

It is where perceiving and will become one.

It is the fire that turns raw sensation into consciousness.

It is the necessary and sufficient condition *the only condition* for your possible evolution.
